City of Kitakyushu has three keywords. "Environment", "Industry-technology" and "Asia"
City of Kitakyushu is an "International Technology City" blessed with the sea and greenery that grew up at the contact point of Kyushu Island,
the southern end of the Japanese archipelago, and Honshu Island. It, in addition to being an important relay point for the trade of the two
islands from ancient times, was also an important place that commands an important international strait (Kanmon Strait) through which sea
routes from the continent of China and the Korean peninsula pass. After entering the twentieth century it developed as an important industrial
region in Japan and came to embrace a population of one million people.

Environmental City that has Conquered Pollution
Due to the development of the heavy and chemical industries, environmental pollution (water pollution, air pollution, etc.)
came to have a
serious impact on the health of the residents and the natural environment.
The continuous efforts of the city residents, businesses and the city have brought forth various environmental technologies and conquered
pollution and, in addition, the City of Kitakyushu has become known in the world as an "Environmental City".
Japan's core industry, technology and science city
With steel manufacturing, chemicals, fine ceramics and the like primary industries that developed from the beginning of the 20th century
and the strength of the technological capability that supported them as the base, in recent years the automobile industry such as Toyota and Nissan, IC (integrated circuits), industrial use robots, TOTO, known for the Washlet and the like advanced sanitary technology, and
the like have developed in Kitakyushu and have come to be firmly established as the important industries of the city. In the city the linkage
of universities, research institutions and industry is being strongly promoted such as by opening a "Kitakyushu Science and Research Park"
aiming at the creation of still more technology and the production of researchers and engineers.
An International City that Contributes to Asia
Kitakyushu is aiming to be an international city through technology, economy and culture following the links to traditional Asia.
